Say hello to a new generation of hackers who are young and have no morals. Adam Mudd was just 15 at the time, when he developed a software in the comfort of his room which was responsible for many DDoS attacks on websites like Microsoft, Sony and Cambridge University.
You might ask why the hacker didn’t sell it for millions, it turns out that Mudd was more interested in “status” than the money. His software is considered one of the most dangerous in recent times and rightfully so as it affected almost every major city in the world. Mudd didn’t even spare his own college while he was studying computer science.
His attack on the college cost about $4,000 to investigate and “incalculable” damage to work and productivity. He even affected 70 other schools and colleges, including the well respected Cambridge University.
According to the chief prosecutor, Jonathan Polnay said, “There were more than 112,000 registered users of Mudd's programme who hacked over 666,000 IP addresses. Of those, nearly 53,000 were in the UK.”
