Affordable phones in 2018 could have high-resolution, Quad HD screens
Qualcomm
is allegedly working on a new chip for mid-range phones in 2018, the
Snapdragon 670, that will high-resolution Quad HD displays and dual
cameras on phones that do not cost a fortune. The information comes from
German blogger Roland Quandt, who has been able to source some very
accurate information in the past.
The new
Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 that is under development is said to come to
replace the current Snapdragon 660. The Snapdragon 660 was what powers a
lot of very popular devices in Asia - the Oppo R11 and R11s series, a
few Vivo phones and the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 - but it is not a very popular
solution for devices in the West.
The model name for the new Snapdragon 670 platform is SDM670 and the list of highlights includes support for:
- 6 GB LPDDR4X RAM
- 64 GB eMMC 5.1 flash storage
- WQHD screen
- 22,6 + 13 MP camera
While
earlier Snapdragon 6xx series chips features octa-core designs, this
new one is rumored to have a hexa-core design, with two big, Kryo 360
cores and four more power-efficient cores. It could also end up being
built on Samsung's new 10nm manufacturing process. Keep in mind that
this is all preliminary information, so do take it with the proverbial
grain of salt until we hear something more substantial in terms of a
proof.
